I wish I could find the name of this book online! I loved creepy scholastic books, I just recently bought “Behind the Attic Wall” on ebay (with the cover I remember), and convinced a friend to bring me all his spooky YA books back from visiting his parents.

For the record I understand and feel similarly. Traditionally valued feminine qualities are doll-like. Pretty, quiet, docile, smooth skin. These dolls feel like the platonic ideal of what the patriarchy would have women be. It’s depressing.

I agree with this take. I feel like if you went into it looking for jump scares you were going to the wrong movie. I also quietly enjoyed I Am The Pretty Thing and House of the Devil so I’m cool with slow burns.
