This doesn't use any less footprint than light rail, it just takes away shoulders/bike lanes/sidewalks along its route. Maybe that's appropriate on some sections of highway, but it would be a major issue if a vehicle broke down and had to pull off the road. So additional shoulder area would have to be added for this
