I saw someone comment that in the UK pretending to spit on someone is a thing young guys in the UK do as a joke. So maybe that would explain both the seeming spitting gesture and Pine’s reaction.

It looks like he makes a kissy face and probably accidentally spit. I think that was the last straw for Pine, who immediately puts on his sunglasses as the lights go down.

I suspect they did anyway or at least one of them would have spoken out by now.

Ah you’re probably right. With these guys who serial-date much younger, I generally assume it’s either a lack of confidence with the women themselves, or a lack of confidence about how other men see them, and thus the need to flaunt some sort of arm candy.
