Jail has not worked as a deterrent in this country for just about anything, why would it work here?

Martha Stewart went to federal prison and she’s doing fine. She’ll still be rich after prison. Also, if jail is a deterrent, it’s obviously not working in the US as we incarcerate a ton of people but we have higher rates of violent crime than similar countries. 

Of course US tipping culture sucks, but it’s what’s in place right now, and not participating in it isn’t an interesting intellectual exercise or protest, it just makes you look like a prick.
