I had a mid 80s Mercury Topaz with that 2.3L engine. Horrid gutless thing with a 1 bbl carb, and mated to a mis-geared 3 speed automatic. You could almost hear the engineers at Ford saying in your ear ‘Seriously, we really don’t care’ as you mashed it to the floor just to try and nudge it up to 50. Thing ate coils

I would much rather have an Old’s Vista Crusier.

Just seeing one thats straight, not rusted out, or modded to within an inch of its life, makes it a slight bit of a unicorn (at least it would be here in NJ). These cars were fun to drive; back when cars were allowed to be light, simple to work on and provide driver feedback. For what it is, this is a NP.

Will probably be bought by a car dealer and flipped for $5500. Any used car in decent condition goes for stupid money these days.

Yes, predominately because the pay scale for truckers is in a race to the bottom, as I hear it. Truckers dont make as much as they used to, so tougher to attract people into it.

Well, a PPI would be a must one one of these things. But I think if you squinted and though you were buying a $50,000 car, and set you expenditure expectations accordingly, you might be in good shape. At least its not the GT with the VW W12 motor. (see Tavarish’s Bentley episodes to witness that nightmare). Slightly

...well, the front fell off.

I was going to make a tasteless joke about the upcoming ‘Khashoggi’ lightweight trim edition, but I think I’ll just see myself out instead.

Nice, good start. I am also hoping for someone to write, sooner rather than later, some in depth pieces of the true end to end environmental footprint of the life cycle of EVs as well, which seem to my untrained eye seem fraught with just a different set of (mostly ignored) problems.

This is such a presumptive shit take that makes all sorts of wild ass assumptions on the network configuration and security, and the whole process of operational flow charting of how oil gets through a pipeline, who owns it and hows it paid for. Do more betterer.

I’ve got a 2015 Passat Limited Edition 1.8 tsi. Bought it with 10,000 miles off lease for not much more than this car. And if I dont beat on it, it gets 37mpg on the highway. Wih the mileage delta betwene tat and this one, I dont see the attraction of the diesel. Yes it gets about 15% higher highway mpg. But Deisel

I went to the Dominican Republic about 15 years ago on vacation. On the trip from airport out through the local towns out to where our resort was I saw some interesting sights. One was a small power substation with a fence around it, and the added security of a soldier siting in a folding beach chair with an assault

I kinda sorta remember reading a long time ago this being somewhat of a thing in Finnish winter car rallies, where it would get cold enough that the trees would freeze solid, and even (especially?) thin young trees would be turned into weapons of mass destruction in an off-road excursion.

If I ever win the lottery, a nicely restored 1965 Riviera is probably in my top 5 want list. Black of course. That is about the pinnacle of 60s Detroit styling.

Who is doing that at the same price point?

Not relative to the 2021 model, but...

Even better than Austin Powers in the tunnel with the electric cart!

I for one love when the government makes broad sweeping decisions on the direction of technological developments. I’m sure that they alone have the foresight to know the global life-cycle impact of these massive decisions. Having feedback from industry just muddies the conversation, an is not needed, and can almost be

Egypt only makes $5BB for an entire year on canal transit fees.

The other reason you might have possibly been pulled over it that coming from out of state, an=y ticket they issue is likely not going to be challenged in traffic court. You arent going to drive back to fight it, so its an ‘easy’ ticket for the police, where they dont have to sweat having to take time to go to court
