@Sushi_Babies: Nice! Yeah, I never found insurance to be worth it, especially if you generally take care of your gear. For an older phone, I had TEP for the first 3 months after which I cancelled it because after the first 3 months, the phone's value on eBay dropped.

@texasbrownie.com: I could go on all day about the benefits of something like an EVO/Sprint over the iPhone/AT&T (or Verizon).

@texasbrownie.com: That's one of the reasons I switched to Sprint. My bill fluctuated between $80 and $110 with NO overages or additional purchases (411, VCast, etc). The fees and taxes just went crazy every month. They charge you for shipping a new phone. They charged for activation. They minimize the plan fee but

I miss TSCC!!

@wylacot: Sounds like bad luck with tower location. I am in the middle of nowhere in southern NJ with nearly full Sprint EVDOrA service.

@daGoat: Why would EVDO cause dropped calls? I thought calls were still on 1xRTT?

I had a long talk with a very knowledgeable Sprint supervisor about this because I am currently trying to "switch numbers" on my phone which is under contract, to what used to be my work cell phone. My employer is releasing the number to me so I don't have to carry two phones. Yay!

I think Matt was mostly just warning people not to get the Verizon iPhone if you're the type that wants the latest and greatest, just so that people aren't pissed of come June when another phone drops. If you know the "risks" or gotchas and still want a Verizon iPhone 4, by all means, get one.

@USB_Humping_Dog: It's so you can precisely tell when it's time to turn it up to 11.

@USB_Humping_Dog: Yeah, well... I guess they need more "swag" to fit the theme. Their anniversary books are $75+ too.

I work for an Authorized McIntosh Dealer and Service Center. I've installed many McIntosh and Snell products. The price tags may seem ridiculous, but if you want the absolute best, it is well justified if it is in your budget.

There's a difference between "need" and "like to have". There's also a difference between need for personal files, work, and games and need for pirated movies, music, games, and pr0n. I know people that hoard absolutely every torrent they can get their hands on.

@1redflag: Glad I'm not the only one!

These are exactly the reasons I proposed after the store was announced. I like dealing with developers directly. It's only a matter of time before Apple only "allows" apps from the App Store and you have to jailbreak your Mac to install anything else.

@zenmoused: You may be correct, but the iPhone is also on it's 4th generation. Android has been out for a couple years, and Apple has had plenty of time and opportunities to freshen up Springboard in terms of features and widgets. Instead, they're concentrating on money-making things like iTunes and the App Store.

@Zak123: Yes, I'm aware of that. I've jailbroken many iPhones for other people.

I refuse to buy into the idea that iOS and the iPhone 4 are the be all end all of cell phones when the platform doesn't even have widgets yet! Not to mention 4G.

@PaintingTrees: I just use the case as protection in my bag. If you needed something for carrying it around, you might look at a Lowepro or something.
