I think a lot of Catholic families there effectively forced some of their daughters to become nuns. The result: A lot of enraged women in convents, ready to lash out at anyone with even less power than their own.

By way of “explanation” I was once married to a PK — a preacher’s kid. This was Calvinist, but the explanation still holds.

I’m finding it hard to be sympathetic to people who have actively championed a deeply misogynistic and abusive institution like the Catholic Church. Is it awful that this happened? Absolutely. Should the people responsible be punished? 100%.

That’s sick. The whole institution is held up by guilt, coersion, manipulation, and gaslighting.

The client Anna O eventually came back and did what Freud and Breuer could not. Tried to lift the lid off sexual abuse of children and made amazing strides in social work.

People who are drawn to the vulnerable will work with that population in a position of power. They didn’t abuse children because they were starved for sex. They took a position where they were in contact with children and had power over them via image and protection.

It is also difficult to get rid of the opinion that it is always the woman who seduces the man

In Ireland, nuns were complicit in some of the worst abuse. They ran the Magdalene Laundries, and beat the everliving shit out of kids who had the misfortune to end up in their care. Fuck nuns and anyone who would want to be a nun.

Ok, serious question. Male, raised catholic starting in the late ‘80s. I was forced to get up to the sacrament of confirmation. Brainwashed into this religious BS. Why are we showing sympathy for anyone in this pedophilia cult? My parents would be “normal” I’m certain that they thought they were anyway. They are a

I just want to ask one of these rapist priests... ‘What justification are you using to convince yourself your God, as described in the Bible, would ever be OK with this?’

God this makes me feel all the more resentful of how the French have dealt with the Tariq Ramadan case. They’ve been so Islamophobic in their rhetoric that they’ve distorted justice, and made it even more complicated and difficult for Muslim women to speak out about the shits in our community.

There’s also #ChurchToo among Evangelical (Protestant) Christians.

Hopefully standing up to the Church remains a habit for them.

Good for you. Here’s your cookie.

I hope every restaurant in town figures out who this was. May you spend your evenings eating a peanut butter sandwich over the sink.

F these people.  Hope they lose their jobs and get denied benefits because those are only for “illegal americans making anchor babies”

I understand your point but... fuck it. I LOVE it. Let them continue to broadcast their racism. Let them revel in it and fly that shitflag proudly. I want every one of them to lose their jobs over their pointless exercises in attempting to display their racial superiority. So let them be outed, let them be fired, let

Don't waste your time using logic on stupid people. I mean c'mon, look who their leader is.

Dear Racists of America:

I replied with this to a similar question on the Jez article*:
