Wait a minute!
These two rolls aren’t really ‘barrel’ rolls. They’re ‘aileron’ rolls that can be performed by any air frame that has a decent roll rate. Barrel rolls, while keeping positive Gs throughout, take a lot more space and altitude. Aileron rolls, depending on how fast you roll, may introduce some ‘light in the seat’ or…
My dad has a story about a P-3 pilot who would bet the crew that he could maintain a perfect 1G barrel roll. Not a plane I’d want to try it on...but pretty impressive
I plan on painting the beak on my ‘16 MDX to it’s body color of Emerald Mist...not sure if I’ll leave the chrome trim around the grille alone yet. After seeing the new grille, I think it kind of makes the MDX look more generic.
The BONE is basically an overgrown fighter jet with more bomb capacity than a B-52. That said, aircraft hardly need to be acrobatic to safely do a barrel roll - which is really a low-stress maneuver.
As Tex Johnson once put it, it’s a 1-g maneuver....
I believe they are +2.5 or 3G rated, but this is really not a high stress maneuver. Hell barrel rolls can maintain 1G constant.
B-1 is a pretty badass piece and I’m sure the airframe was designed to handle some sort of a g-load. I mean it is supposed to break mach 1 pretty easily, that has got to be a partial testament to the strength of the airframe.
Tex Johnston did it with a Boeing 367 (Think 707 prototype). In theory, when perfectly executed, a barrel roll should be a 1G maneuver.
The B1 is not a “large plane” like other large planes. It was originally designed for Mach 2+, it is swing wing, it uses quad after burning F-14 engines, is fully acrobatic, and can carry 60 tons into battle at supersonic speed.
Wasn’t that a prototype of a C-130 revision?
That was a C-130Jj Ghostrider that did lost control and went momentarily inverted, lost 5000 feet of altitude during testing. Yes, it will not fly again.
That was an over G event. Different scenario
It very well could have been the KC-135 that was used in the demo to sell it to the Air Force.
A measured, logical, humane, fact based response would be to properly profile and surveil people who are most likely to carry out such an attack.
First and foremost, we have to go after their international funding sources. That's the key. I knew these guys had money, but I had no idea they had Airport Luggage Cart Money.
It all depends on what the design was before. So for instance the Grand Cherokee has a DLO that is stretch bent and co-extruded stainless steel. to make that whole thing a black color that meets all appearance and endurance specifications is not possible with current technology, because the film needs to be applied…
