For me, the problem with CK is that he was once so good at commenting about race, sexism and homophobia. Since then, we’ve learned that was a pose to inure himself from his history of abuse. If what I found most engaging about him was fake, I don’t think there’s a way I could enjoy his work in the future without

Oh those poor menz who had their lives ruined by #metoo! It has really gone so far! Those mean women, when can they learn to forgive? It is so unfair that he is being tried at the court of public opinion. He is truly a hero rising above the difficult times he has had to endure!

Fuck him, get back on stage and kill it again.

Yeah but to be fair, Griffin disrespected Donald Trump, one of the most popular and well regarded figures in American history. She crossed an unforgivable line, and in an industry as staid and refined as comedy I’m not sure that there’s a comeback for that. Louis CK’s indiscretions took place in private, and arguably

Consequences. That is the only thing that matters in cases like these.

Louis and all those who protected him have to face negative consequences or they’ll just go back to the way they were.

If I had been in the audience at the Comedy Celler, Louis would not have been able to do a set. I would have interrupted him and

honest to fucking god, i don’t think there’s anything more fragile on this planet than the male ego.

Well said. Can you imagine if the genders had been reversed in this situation? She’d never work again.

There’s a small update on the Vulture where they interview a couple of women in the audience—he was greeted warmly, but no mention of a standing o, and the applause was lighter on his way out. Predictably, the women shared a look with other women audience members who weren’t enthused. I’m replying here just to call out

Jerry Lewis said, when asked about Lucille Ball’s comedic talent, “I don’t think of women that way. They’re baby machines.”

One thing that also really bothers me about LCK, other than the actual sexual violations of course, is his constant, decades-long lying. Over and over and over again in interview after interview, he said he didn’t do anything. He called his victims liars. Then as he gained fame and influence he was able to demand that

Jen Kirkman also posted a thread about CK that is definitely worth reading:

Griffin forgot:

Louis CK walked into a standing ovation before he even opened his mouth. The message from the audience being we missed you, we are glad you rose above those crazy harpies who tried to bring you down. We protect power at all costs, while the vulnerable are left to wallow.

“... many men in the business [w]ant to see Louis come back because deep down inside they know they’ve also done fucked up shit to women,” she said. “[T]hey want to know that it’s not going to hurt them on a permanent basis. Louis is their test case.”

Gonna be vocal, and gonna push back on the other commenters trying to shame the outcry as leftist militantism.  That’s what we’re gonna do.

Via the mechanism people are complaining about in this article and comments: public outcry, boycotts, loss of performance opportunities, lack of news coverage, no platform given to come back appearances.  These are perfectly appropriate responses to criminal behavior, and it’s not some kind of militant left

What’s the point of having a series of awful moments ruin the rest of your life?

Committing crimes OFTEN destroys your career.  Plenty of criminals are forced from their chosen careers, and must find another.  I’m fine with this for those guilty of assault.  You are not owed a public career simply because it’s what you prefer.  He can be a damn accountant.
