lol That’s how TLC sucks you in! They’re like “Intrigue! Drama! Plural divorce!” and then you get some shit about a lady in a jean skirt making 60 pancakes.
DEAN!!!! This was one of Community’s best, tbh. Thank you!
Why, yes, I have read the book, and the stage plays, and seen the early live action adaptations, and the cartoon, and the remakes. What point are you making? *Playing Indian* is racist. If you want to keep producing material based on a racist source, you better change your material to reflect the times.
I think Barrie’s Natives are inherently racist in that they are portrayed as savages and called such, and also the “Picaninny” name and caricature draws heavily on Native American and African pygmy stereotypes.
That’s always the weird part about (some) Native roles: like in The Last Airbender, two of the main characters’ tribes were based on the Inupiak, and Inupiak were cast, but as background characters. The daughter and son of the tribe’s chief? White kids with blue eyes.
They dared to use Sir Ben Kingsley as a FUCKING PROP! RAAAAGE
NDN anger coming: I hate how Joe Wright and everyone involved in Pan pushed aside any criticism of their casting choices. Yes, Neverland is imaginary, but the Native people Barrie based his racist caricatures on were Native American people. I hate that he touted Ben Kingsley as example of how they didn’t completely…
Secret shame-fuck or hate-fuck? Mine’s the latter.
Omg I’d forgotten all about this
Lol the one near where I grew up was actually called The Amazing Maize. Personally would’ve gone with The Hominy Hideaway.
I read the Professor’s name as Richard Belzer and paused, then went “Yeah, I can see it.”
Thanks for this~
Be the change!
If he weren’t white and still marginally famous he would already be in jail. Dude does not want help, clearly, and now he’s a danger to others.
I agree this is awesome, but Cynthia Nixon is misidentified as a Bard alum just above the tweet embed.
This does not have the same glee that learning Hugh Grant drunkenly gallivants about St. Andrews had.
Sending the biggest internet hugs to you rn.
Melanie C and Emma Bunton need to be higher on that list. Melanie C for carrying most of their oeuvre (alongside Ginger, of course) and Emma Bunton for her recurring role on Ab Fab
