Well, I can't think of another author off the top of my head who's writing shifts so drastically from book to book. Read in order, it might make sense, but damn. Pick up Killer on the Road after American Tabloid. Utterly, completely different in every way. Both good (hell, Killer on the Road is under rated as

Well, I think my Ellroy experience is kind of roundabout. I started with My Dark Places in 1996 when I found a cheap signed copy at a B&N. Then I saw him speak a few weeks later and was completely blown away. I bounced around a bit, LA Confidential, some of his short stories. Then I got American Tabloid and was

I'd be interested to hear from folks whether or not the LA Quartet is necessary to start this one. I think the Underworld USA Trilogy is the most under rated series of books ever written, but try as I might I can't get through The Black Dahlia.

They mention it briefly in the header, but please, please check out Dalrymple and Lethem's 'Omega the Unknown.' Such a great comic and made even better when you read the super weird original.

I dunno man, I think that sentence could be the lead in for any of Morrison's books over the past 10 years. His Batman Inc run especially. I started reading it in trades, then said screw it and went to torrents just because someone put all of them in order with some connective tissue. I still don't 'get it' though

The fact that their first album was left off the AVClub's Best of..list was a travesty. I just saw these guys live recently here in Seattle. I swear I thought 'This is what it must have been like to see Run DMC before they got huge.' Amazing music, perfect chemistry. These guys are the SHIT.

Yeah, I'm skeptical. Its a WGN original so we'll see.

Also: Shouts out to The AVClub for bringing Tim O'Neil on board! The Hurting is the best!

Here's to hoping that Southern Bastards lives up to Scalped and it gets more attention. I was so dissapointed about how that series was covered, though the AV Club did a fantastic 'Big Issue' about it when it concluded.

So you are saying this is because Wolverine is getting a divorce? Moving to DC?

Can Wolverine and Ghost Rider have a baby and name it Spawn?

Also, can we take bets on which character will cry when he dies? Will Past Jean Gray weep for Logan? The fans beg to know more!!!

"But, for the moment, it appears that Marvel is set on putting Wolverine to rest for good."

Man, I can't wait for next year when R Kelly finally knocks Kanye from the throne. He's so brilliant!

I dunno how you read it, but this is the first comic I've read in a long time where multiple readings change the entire discourse on it.  I've downloaded some, read them and re-read them when a new one comes out.  I'm planning on knocking out all of them again on a flight this weekend.  That's a long way to say that I

Agreed on all points, but Soul Food is it's own level.  Hell, anything from that early Dungeon Family is incredible, even Parental Advisory's first album.

Eh.  That album is incredible, but I view it more as a byproduct of Native Tongues.  I'm not mad at it, but the magic there wasn't Black Sheep per se.

When I heard the entire Soul Food album for the first time, I thought 'Welp, there is no way they are ever, ever going to do this again.'  I was right.  These guys are like Camp Lo to me: They could never make another album and I'd still feel obliged to put them in my top 25 all time.

The Doctor Device is in the trailer.  God help us all.
