Jingoism? I don’t think that word means what you think it means.

Messi’s simulation was pretty despicable in this game. He did it multiple times, and honestly should have been booked twice. He’s the best player in the world so why is he resorting to those antics. Shameful display by #10.

That’s one really inefficient flamethrower, look at all the un-burned fuel! You could run like two more flamethrowers with that fuel!

Everyone seems to know it but him too.

Switzerland and Poland are fairly evenly matched though, so a conservative game from both sides is understandable. Wales should beat Northern Ireland and Croatia should beat Portugal. NI and Portugal parking the bus was to be expected but the inability of their opponents to open them up was horrible to watch. Well

The Poles were very good with the placement and execution of the penalties. It was like watching the German team.

This isn’t new for Shaqiri, it may have been tongue-in-cheek though.

It’s overused everywhere, not just in the US. I know it would be simple to blame Americans for this, but it’s more the fault of modern sportscasters desperate to get their call on a highlight reel.

I get that, but if they know they are building on a rocky surface that’s soluble in acidic rain/ground water I think due diligence should be done and they should be required to find another way to secure the buildings foundation. I suggested piles before, but there are other ways too. You could use trusses for support

Yeah, the risk and investment are probably more easily justified for a big auto factory than for a museum. In the picture it doesn’t even look like there’s a real foundation, just cement poured over level ground. kind of scary to think people could have been standing there when it happened.

You’d think architects would keep this in mind and build structures on top of piles or some other reinforcement in karst areas like they do on swampland or other loose soil.

Hmm, not a problem where I live ( not much limestone ). cool to know though.

Is it ground water, or really leaky pipes?

Except for the part where it’s awful to watch. I can’t wait until the old British 4-4-2 kick and run game is gone forever. though that would mean bringing Scotland and many other leagues out of the stone-age.

Fair enough, The Red Wings ownership did have a lot to do with bringing in eastern bloc players.

This is way harder than the NBA one. There have been so, so many bad draft picks in the NHL. Alexandre Daigle gets mentioned a lot, but aside from Pronger and Kariya, that draft year wasn’t especially strong. I really don’t know who the worst NHL Pick would be.

There was still a lot of trepidation about players from former soviet states back then. Alexander Mogilny had to defect to play in the NHL just a year earlier. Still a horrible decision though, but at least you can see why they made it.

I still don’t get how a sinkhole could be that bad inside a building. Was it built over a cistern?

Was this photoshopped over an Alpha 4C? Why the fuck is it so short and squatty? Even a mid-engined Corvette would still have about the same wheel base and overall height.

I think the Las Vegas “30 shares of 500 million dollars” sounds about right. It’s the only reason expansion was approved.
