It’s unlikely to be the end of scouting. Maintaining the infrastructure to allow individual councils to keep on going is not that expensive. Some stuff may be lost, such as a few BSA properties, but the bulk of scouting activity has always been self funded.

People often find themselves without a job when they do this. They’ll leave for the full amount of time, will be replaced in the meantime, and when they come back their employer gives them a very shitty job at the same level of pay (to stay within the letter of the law) until they can’t stand it anymore and quit.…

I would have gladly taken 12 weeks of paternity leave for both of our children being born. But paying the mortgage and buying groceries were also attractive options.
