For the longest time Cowboy Bebop was the show you’d show people who weren’t into Anime. Because it completely transcends the genre.
At risk of exposing the hopeless anime nerd that I am, I’ve watched well over 700 different anime.... and I’m not sure there is another that makes a person feel the same way that Cowboy Bebop does... That’s why it’s so special. Though there are are plenty of shows with as much or more impact in different ways... But…

I think Spike goes back because ultimately he knows he can’t run away from his past—it’s what he’s been doing this entire time. Hence the reveal that he’s actually blind in one eye. One eye sees the present, but the other eye is constantly in the past.
