I think that's a really good point. For many people, coming home and watching some solid programming sans commercials is a great way to chill, learn some stuff, and have a shared experience with your loved one. That being said, I know I could probably watch less TV and look back on my days without a TV with longing.

So it will create an address book you can upload elsewhere, or will it actually make the contacts in your current gmail address book (sorry to be dense and/or lazy with this question)? Coming from an android device, that is where all of my contact info is, and it isn't anywhere else.

Hardware Question: What sort of NAS or SAN would I need to be able to have read/write speeds fast enough for something like video editing (so manipulating files on the NAS from a secondary computer)? To complicate matters, I have two computers that I want to have access to the same files (not concurrently), so I think

Good response btw. Something I should have mentioned was the difference between backup and archiving. I was approaching this from a true backup perspective and with the current tools, in my mind, versioning encompasses backup since if it disappears (you delete it or a hardware failure), you 'revert' to a previous

Sure.

Funny about the video, since I have heard copying certain things too much will reduce the integrity.

I had completely forgot about that, and that is perfect. Seriously.

This seems like anti-Lifehacker advice. Taking time to manage versions and copies of things, as opposed to setting up an automated system to accomplish this in the background, seems ridiculous to me.

Managing your Gmail inbox

I agree, but like others, would recommend a different registar... like http://www.name.com/ .

I was thinking this too the other day, since I had prepared a roasted chicken just by salting the outside http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2012/03/roast-chicken . The only problem with forgoing a brine is that you can do some other things with liquid that you can't do with a rub (like using citrus and even maple

How about letting your browser manage your passwords... I use a password manager so I can remember my passwords and come up with crazy hard ones, but I never got around to moving from saying NO to my browser and YES to my password manager.

Do docks count?

Thanks, that was going to drive me crazy.

That's now two mentions of FancyHands for me. I just read another interview where the person mentioned fancyhands. They said they always joke about "Fancyhanding- things". Totally can't find it but I thought it was on LH.

I think I might have put 'reduce your [new] taxable income' at the very top, or at least that is what I am trying to do. I start getting a new salary November 1, and am trying to figure out the best ways to reduce my taxable income with pre-tax spending and retirement. In a way its like some of the recommendations

What's the word on the regional ESPN 3 blackouts, anyone tried it yet?

I try to get a swim in around 2, and I know I am more productive in the latter part of the day because of it. Its a really nice reset since I had noticed how from 2-4 I don't get anything done.

I think this metaphor is a good one, but really surfing is more zen (i.e., being in the moment) than taking risks for reward. The author seems to get at this, but then ruins the story with "the more waves you go for, the more you'll catch". I can attest that going after too many waves means you are going to wear

No joke. 3 x 27 inchers alone is pretty insane. I am about to get a second office for a new job where I will be working between offices. My current office relies on 2 x 22inchers, but it seems the price point has moved to 23 inches, and I have been thinking even 23 inches seems a bit large.
