After your first post I finally found that my receiver has a DRC (dynamic range control) setting, which I set to max and helps out with this problem. Thanks again Whitson.

An even bigger issue I have when taking night shots is making sure to adjust my f-stop manually, otherwise if I am using a really fast lens I will get a shot like the one above where only part of the face is in the focal plane. In my mind a harder issue than color: balancing f-stop and iso to get that perfect shot

at $30, I think these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003VNKKUS/ref=cm_sw_su_dp?tag=bneely-20 headphones have very acceptable sound quality, while having superb comfort. I use them as my work phones, and coming from a $300 bose pair, these really aren't that bad, imo.

That is a great point and you are spot on that its not like I am going to be making full on programs with GUIs using python.

I don't know if this will help, http://lifehacker.com/5875549/stop-looking-like-a-phisher-in-gmail , but I have been in the same boat, but then it goes away.

Pretty sure the origin of this term (in this case) is to rolling your own distro, where you create a custom linux distribution from the pre-install step thereby rolling your own distro, and now that term sticks for anything that you are customizing pre-production. Of course it could have to do with Rick Roll.

I think as long as its water-resistant it is a winner in my book. As someone who has to keep daily written records (i.e., a lab book), seeing pages succumb to water damage is soul crushing.

We have a local food truck that basically puts sriracha and kimchi on everything. I strongly suggest sriracha on anything with eggs. http://www.iheartrotirolls.com/

When did Chrome stop allowing installation of userscripts (or is it just me)? Is there a work around? I only recently started noticing.

Yeah, probably something to mention. Spend $10 for an app, or double that and get an updated OS that does that a other things.

I still use the now defunct Google Listen. Favorite (and really only) shows in order are Radio Lab, Planet Money, APM Marketplace, The Dinner Party, TAL, and Propublica. I will be sad to lose Google Listen when I move to iOS in a couple weeks, and still don't understand why Google got rid of it. That being said, a lot

I know there are many reasons why phone insurance isn't the best deal, but for those buying a new iPhone from a wireless provider (versus the Apple Store), are you getting phone insurance and why? I know you used to be able to take your phone to an Apple store for amazing results, but I don't know if that still works,

Rowan's Creek is a major favorite of mine in this range. Also, check out this issue of this local (for me) magazine. http://www.charlestonmag.com/charleston_magazine/feature/native_spirit

I saw a piece a while back on LH which touted the reasons to stick with a lower capacity smart phone (or device), but what are people's thoughts on using a 16, 32 or 64 gb phone (be it iOS, or Android)?

Is the general consensus that the next iPhone will be available for purchase by end of the month? I am on Sprint and so I am not sure if its better to pick it up at the Apple store or at the Sprint store. (yes, this is a pretty lame open thread topic)

In standard organic chemistry labs they use glass wool for this sort of thing (aka fiberglass insulation) to help maintain accurate temps and I bet you could use that. We boil with an outdoor gas head when making the wort.
