There’s an actual tool for that top nut for people who don’t have a rattle wrench handy. $8.57 at Rock Auto. I love how an easy 20 minute job turns into an hour and much more of a hassle. That’s the truth about wrenching.
Last summer I blew the pinion seal on my 02 Expedition. The vent tube had broken off and I dunked it into the lake when launching my boat for the season. I drove 100 miles home with the differential full of lake water. Not good.
Oh yeah, and the master cylinder, too. About the only thing I didn’t replace was the rear wheel cylinders and the solid line going back. to them.

I started out intending on just replacing the RABS controller and ended up replacing both front calipers and flex lines, too. In order to get a good seal for bleeding with my MityVac, I got new bleeder bolts and put teflon tape…
Because Dieselgate took down my 2005 Gen IV Jetta’s value, I ditched it and got me a brand new 2015 Ford F250 crew cab long box with the 6.2L gas engine. Kind of the opposite of the Jetta in every respect.
