The summary here is incorrect. If you read the linked Guardian article, the implant is permanent and the prosthetic is removable. It's actually easier to remove than a traditional prosthetic and comes with an auto-release to prevent damage to the implant and bone in certain situations.

My grandfather lost both of his legs above the knee in an industrial accident and while he had prosthetic legs, he just stopped wearing them as they were so difficult to use. He lived 40+ years after losing them, and for the most part, it didn't slow him down (he built houses and drove and did all manner of "normal"
