The fairy tale retelling I keep thinking about lately is Deerskin, by Robin McKinley. The main character processes a sexual assault by a family member, and eventually regains her power and her voice. She does this with a loyal dog by her side. The book doesn’t shirk on the depth of her trauma. $1.99 on Kindle.
