Oxygen deprivation.
Oxygen deprivation.
I understand, but I felt like Kennedy’s cluelessness was time consuming and, in a meta sense, Picoult claiming wokeness/the ability to educate. She was a Skeeter in that her journey was more center stage than I’d prefer.
A book that reminded me of The Help, in all the worst ways, was Small Great Things, by Jodi Picoult. Boy, do people love that book. It’s an entertaining read, but that Kennedy’s — the white lawyer — story and her clueless good intentions were given as much space as Ruth’s POV was cringeworthy. A white supremacist was…
I guess it’s up to interpretation, but I never thought she loved Adam so much as wanted to understand someone who was good, since she wasn’t.
You definitely need to Google some things. :)
I agree. Has the show made me cry? At least twice. Does every article and ad have to focus on that angle? It’s smarmy and makes me not want to tell anyone I watch the fucking thing.
Your rule of 3 takes years to fulfill? :)
How could you know, though? Just because she was the inspiration, in his mind, doesn’t mean it’s an accurate portrayal. Also, it’s unlikely -- even at her worst -- that she did a lot of the things Cathy did. But if she -- SPOILER ALERT -- banged his brother, provoked her pimp and/or had a pimp, burned her parents…
I always assumed this. He’s one of my favorite authors, but I took it as a given he was a piece of shit since he was a man writing and living back in the day.*
If he had known that she had been treated poorly by someone in the industry in a way adjacent to his experience, I would hope he was supportive. Maybe he was. Maybe he wasn’t. Maybe he didn’t know or didn’t believe. She seemed like a person who could have used an ally, if only to not feel cast aside from the people…
Anthony Edwards has come forward about being molested by a writer/producer when he was a kid. I wonder what he knew about the situation with Vanessa Marquez.
You’re ridiculous in all the best ways.
When Darkness Loves You traumatized me deeply. And depressed me.
I love the lyric and take it as when you make the world or a situation worse, you then have to live with that, the damage you’ve done, the reduction of kindness that might now be lacking when you need it.
I agree with your interpretation of her reaction. He can’t know exactly why she tells him not to leave. As far as he knows, she hasn’t seen him in forever, and he has no reason to expect her to welcome him like that. In truth, the woman that opens the door is grieving him.
That was sincerely a cute, inclusive movie. Damn.
As mydogisagenius mentions, Hailey’s father is Stephen Baldwin. :)
That episode was a masterpiece. I hope people stuck around long enough to get here.
She is the one. He has other children from his current marriage.
