“Thought” process: I am not a racist. I abhor racism. Let me make this member of a minority aware that I have floating around in my head every racist stereotype involving his/her/their ethnicity.
I think that Smith is exactly the sort of guy who would have sleepless nights over this. Fans, and I consider myself a moderate fan, know him more for his multiple podcasts and speaking engagements, and what comes through is he is a good, sensitive guy. Filthy mouth, good heart, tries to do the right thing. Given…
I’m a Kindle girl, but did used to pride myself on my uncanny knack for finding a passage in a print book. :)
I think that’s a fair comment — like you needed my approval :) —but that’s all tech. After several years the item is no longer supported, and so you have to upgrade. I’ve been happy with every incarnation of the Kindle I’ve had, but they’ve progressed and bettered over time, which is also what all tech does or should…
I think sometimes people don’t know where to look. A Kindle book tends to open at where someone else has determined it should, even for some weird reason after the prologue. So it’s a good idea to go back pages when it opens. Anyhow, there is a go to function that should help them navigate.
“Being able to take thousands of book anywhere in the world I think beats taking an extra 10 minutes to fall a sleep if you happen to be reading at night (which I wouldn’t recommend anyway)“
Have you called Kindle customer service? My experience with them has been excellent, but I don’t think I’ve called in a few years.
I’m all over this discussion talking about my Kindle love. (Hey, I have a Nook somewhere, but I was already set in my ways by the time I got it.) However, if I go into a bookstore, I’m going to buy physical books. Not only would it feel rude not to, the covers are sooooo pretty and there are so many colors!
“I read about 50% faster when I don’t have to manage the paper book. I also have this compulsion to constantly know out how much more is left in the current chapter or in the book and the kindle percentage meter calms that part of my brain.”
I love using Overdrive to access library books. If I’m not mistaken, it actually ties me in to all the libraries that are in the same library system. As soon as someone returns the book or their time lapses, 24 hours a day, the book them goes on hold for the next person.
Exactly. I am a disorganized wreck of a human being, and in 9 years of having Kindles I’ve never ran out of battery. Why? Because even a disorganized wreck of a human being can manage to plug in a Kindle every couple weeks or so if they read on a daily or near daily basis.
I’ve always found so many arguments against e-readers to be ableist. The whole “I only read real books” thing is insulting to a lot of passionate readers who need the benefits of an e-reader in order to pursue their passion.
You can register her device to you, and then she has access to your library. I mean, depending on the size of her own library she might not want to do it, but this is always how my husband and I have operated since he doesn’t really want to buy his own books and I have skads of books.
Have you double tapped? That should allow you then to swipe from panel to panel and have a close view of each.
If it helps, I understand. I’ve lost my share of print books, only to find them months later, and I’d have to restart to remember. I’ve never lost my Kindle for longer than a couple minutes because it’s either with me, or next to my bed, and plugged in.
He did an excellent job on the books, but it’s jarring to hear him pronounce Petyr as Puh-tire. :)
Well, that’s something people have to decide about, but I wouldn’t want to keep a book that was sold to me through dishonesty. Fortunately, although I’ve purchased over 2000 books for my Kindle, it’s never been an issue.
Not just that, but the Kindle Fire has “blue shade.” After dark, the screen turns off the blue light, and you get a sepia page to help you fall asleep.
