As a person with gastroparesis, I can tell you how much it’s fucked up. To reduce my pain, vomiting and flare-ups, my GI doctor has told me no fresh fruit, no fresh vegetables or fresh salads. I can’t have dairy or eat meat other than chicken. Day-to-day, it’s a battle to find any food that doesn’t make me sick.

I hate to say this, because I’m going to sound like a total fucking psycho, but....chronic inflammation is for real. It’s considered to be the primary driver (or one of the primary drivers) of the pathogenesis of a host of chronic diseases. Atherosclerosis, chronic inflammation. Type 2 diabetes, chronic inflammation.

*raises hand*
I have full body inflammation! My c-reactive protein showed me this just last week, and you are absolutely correct about its use as a test and diagnostic.

Spoilers: I have lupus, not death via avocados, which are gifts from baby jesus.

Thanks!! I was telling another commenter this, but that’s the other thing that bugs me about the inflammation fad- if doctors really could make you lose weight by testing for inflammation and handing you a food chart, THEY WOULD BE DOING THAT. Inflammation isn’t some kind of secret.

Your inflammation levels are tested in a basic blood panel. C-reactive protein levels let you know. They go up if you’re sick, surprise surprise!

Based on the people in LA I hear blathering about the anti-inflammatory diet, it’s the second one. :(

And generalized “inflammation” sounds like generalized “toxins” to me. I have some periodic inflammation, but it tends to hit specific areas of my body at specific times of year. I’m also allergic to many tree pollens, super-allergic to grasses, allergic to a lot of weeds, and allergic to molds, and I live in the

I was sort of wondering that as I was reading. Is the point to eat more foods with anti-inflammatory properties (an actual good thing to do), or is it to eliminate food that supposedly causes inflammation? Because there’s kind of a big difference in the end between the two.

Unless you have an actual digestive problem with what you’re eating, food is not giving you inflammation. I seriously doubt the average person has any medically significant amount of inflammation. If this diet works for you, great, but it’s seriously not curing any out-of-control inflammation.

Um, I’m about %99.999 sure Slowham-9 is making the same point as you. Our education system screws over POC kids, so they get robbed of the early STEM courses that many students credit with influencing their decision to go into STEM in college. In turn, because these kids never got the degree due to the systematic

Uh huh. There’s always a reason. When Asian guy or white guy walks into the interview, he has an advantage regardless of degree or previous experience. He is unconsciously viewed as a better candidate than an equivalent or even a better candidate who is a white woman or a man or woman who is hispanic, black, or

Um, your links say that the rates of female minorities in CS are abysmal:

Portland Oregon

Really interesting graph- well worth checking out. As far as gender, 70/30 seems to be peak comfort level for men. Beyond that, it’s “the wimmen be taking over!”

25% of tech is Asian. Asians, including South Asians, are over represented in tech, so boiling it down to simple racism is an oversimplification. Do you think Google and Twitter are rejecting hundreds of black candidates who pass their very, very difficult tests? If so, they need to change. However, if they aren’t,
