Back in the early aughts, some friends left a football game to find an unmarked VHS tape tucked under their windshield. They brought it over to my house, and it was just this:

Will Smith’s first role post-Slap

Jesus, that was hard to watch.

Definitely a valid argument to be made that Marvel’s become overly reliant on familiarity with other properties. The interconnectedness is part of what makes the films unique, but it’s also a frustrating barrier for folks who aren’t willing to devote 10-20 hours of their lives each year to watching every MCU

Maybe I’m missing your point here, buuuuut . . .

Have you ever been to see a movie where you weren’t familiar with the characters before seeing it?

I think it’s safe to say that nobody wants that.

I think we can probably all agree that the real problem is that no one actually knew where the story was going. Say what you will about Lucas, the presence of an auteur (or, hell, a show-runner) was the downfall of the sequel trilogy.

Absolute banger, front to back. This is definitely a driving record. Night driving, especially.

it just looks like a middle finger to old-school fans.

I imagine that that’s literally true. I guess I wasn’t talking about an aggregate of every post on every website in the world, and more about mainstream film criticism, articles in Empire Magazine, things like that.

It’s imperfect, but by FAR the best of the Sequel Trilogy. It was unexpected, beautiful, frustrating, thrilling, and, you know, we’re still talking about it. When was the last time anyone mentioned Rise of the Skywalker or whatever the fuck?

Every move Discovery has made since taking over betrays a deep misunderstanding of what people want from a streaming service. There is literally no such thing as too much content. Bury it if you want, but to pull it entirely is fucking insane.

I was a big fan of both Neverending Story and Enemy Mine as a kid, but had no idea until recent years that Peterson directed both. An amazing auteur, doing his best work within the studio system.

Oh, if you define “Death threat” as “saying mean things,” then yes, trans folks and their allies absolutely do that all the time.

I’ve been on the internet long enough to know that trolls rarely have actual ideology. But, yes, I am absolutely triggered by 8chan rejects taking over the comment section of a nice pop culture website I’ve been visiting for the better part of 20 years.

“Do better.” Eat shit, dude.

Man, if only I had conceded your point in my previous comment.

I was very careful to say typically. Of course there are outliers. But, whatever, believe what you want to believe. Just so fucking sick of people sticking up for transphobes on this website.

Can you provide any evidence to the contrary, other than JK Rowling’s tweets? The fact remains that it’s much, much more dangerous to be trans than TERF.
