I enjoyed the book when I read it, but I also found it really uneven in spots. (The bank robbery bits and Iraq had my attention way more than the addiction story or his relationship with Emily.) I think it would have really benefited from being an actual memoir rather than a fictionalized account.

I also initially thought this was an Ignatiy review because the snark was so delicious. I haven’t read a review this delightfully scathing in a long time! It’s a shame the movie is so bad. I found the book interesting enough when I read it a few years ago. It wasn’t perfect, but it could have made an intriguing film

Wow, I’m even more impressed! Ever since seeing that movie as a preteen, every time I’d see him in something, I’d get excited because I knew he’d be excellent.

I just commented on here that was the first thing I ever saw him in, and I always remembered him for that role. I’d forgotten how little screentime he has, but he sure does make an impression! The only thing else I really remember from that movie is Henry Fonda as Nimitz reflecting on being a kid from Texas, far from

Don’t feel bad. The first role I saw him in—and the one I always associate him with—is the brilliant but eccentric Navy cryptography officer in Midway.

Aww I just watched her Stoney Burke episode a couple of nights ago, and she was superb in it. She plays a young Bruce Dern’s crazy cousin and kind of beats the shit out of an equally young Warren Oates. But it all ends up being weirdly sweet and heartwarming. In any event, that episode had had me thinking about her

I enjoyed the book too! Not sure if I'm going to watch the movie but am curious to see what Walker writes in the future.

Based on the images of some of them packing zip ties, I think they were rendered confused that there weren’t Democratic legislators present for them to terrorize, torture, and murder.

I thought it was cute and amusing!

Hehe I just commented on this in response to someone else. I’ve been watching the show for the first time in a long time, and I am a bit taken aback sometimes by how dark it is. It seems to me as if the show is collectively remembered as being more wholesome than it actually was.

The Waltons actually predate Little House by 2 years. I’ve been watching LHOTP lately and am a little surprised by how un-family friendly it can be in the middle of all the wholesomeness. One minute, it’s about school hijinks and unhinged goats, but the next minute Ma’s trying to cut off her leg and there’s a rapist

Yeah they’re both excellent in it. For me, it’s Paxton. “We keep odd hours!”

Near Dark definitely deserves to be better known (my favorite vampire movie), but I found Pasdar the most boring aspect of the film.

I’d put in a vote for her book Enemy Women too. About Civil War-era Missouri.

I loved this book so much, and I’m not sure I want to watch the movie. I am a big fan Paulette Jiles fan. I also loved her book Enemy Women.

Yeah I can’t remember physically how Kidd was described, and Garner was a pretty big guy. Mainly, I thought there was a kindness and good humor inherent to Garner that I noted in Kidd that I actually thought made Garner a terrible Woodrow Call, though I do like his performance in Streets of Laredo. I’ve been

When I read the book this movie is based on a few years ago, I totally envisioned Streets of Laredo era James Garner as Kidd.

I liked his performance better than Hopkins’. There was just something so grody about him.

Such a good movie! I love all of Mikkelsen’s movies with Anders Thomas Jensen. The Green Butchers is the sweetest movie I’ve ever seen about cannibalism. I never could muster up any interest in Hannibal, but that film is one of my favorites--Mikkselsen is great in it too.

That would be perfect!
