He was mine, too. One of the most heartbreaking character fates I’ve ever seen in a TV series. It was obvious he was going to die, but it still just devastated me.
She never bothered me, either. I loved that “geek-looking fuck” line, and I felt like her ultimate showdown with Cy Tolliver is one of the most disturbing in the entire run of the show. It takes a lot for a role to be Powers Boothe’s most frightening villain, but for me that scene where he tortures them cements Cy…
I wish I could upvote this more than once.
Amen! He’s doing the Lord’s work. . . .
Haha I must confess, I have not seen that one! Sounds like I need to remedy that. I recently really enjoyed him in the And Then There Were None miniseries. The rest of it seemed pretty mediocre, but he did not disappoint.
I think that’s a perfectly reasonable viewpoint! I do think the more enduring examples of any genre have to have something that goes above and beyond simply being cool or entertaining.
I’m not picky about Charles Dance villains. My introduction to him was in Last Action Hero. :)
That could be, but I didn’t read it that way. I’m not under any illusions about the hokiness of the dialogue—it’s terrible in the trailers--so I am sure a lot of the movie beyond the special effects is not great. But I feel like Rife’s statement is not rooted in what studios won’t do—it is very much her own thoughts…
I also disliked The Untouchables, though in my case, a lot of it is tied to disliking Costner. Still, the rest of the movie didn’t make up for him.
“you can’t just have two hours of kaiju slapping each other around like a gargantuan WWE highlights reel.”
I’m watching it on IMAX on Friday too. :D
Amen. Once Cranston bit the dust, I ceased to give a shit about anyone else in that movie.
I was obsessed with Skeletor as a 5-year-old.
I’ve only seen him in The Crown. I had mixed feelings about his performance, though I’ll admit some of it was probably the writing, too. Sometimes, I thought he was excellent, and other times, I found him very underwhelming.
Yeah I had no idea how short he was until I read Jeff Guinn’s bio of him last year. I think I literally did a double take and had to reread the sentence again. I’m an average-sized woman (5'4") and was like, are you seriously telling me I’m taller than Manson?
Isn’t that Kevin Bacon’s daughter? Maybe he needs to ask for a paternity test because holy shit the Marky Mark resemblance is uncanny. I didn’t notice it at first but after reading your comment I can’t unsee it.
He’s also way too tall to be Manson. I’ve loathed his casting ever since it was announced for that reason. That was part of what made Manson so creepy to me. His physical stature is so unassuming and seemingly harmless that it masks what a crazy, evil, demented fuck he was. The young women and men he was intimidating…
In addition to all the other things we’ve raved about, the music choices in the show are always awesome and on point.
I love the callbacks to previous episodes. I didn’t pick up on those when I first watched since my own viewing was so spotty. It’s a show that’s definitely rewarding to revisit. :)
