I have two thoughts on it.
1. If the decision to change a hero's gender is purely a marketing one, it feels shitty and disingenuous.
2. If it doesn't have a negative effect on the story telling, I don't have much of a problem with it.
If you look at the ships in the fleet, there are Targ, Tyrell, and Martell sails. They're already in/near Westeros.
Canon for the show, sure. For the books, well, I only take confirmations for things in the books from the books; regardless of what I want to believe. It's probably the same though.

Beric had to sacrifice himself to do it in the book. They would have to do a lot of hand waving in the show to bring back Cat without that; seeing as Thoros has no desperate attachment to her, so the only sliver of reasoning we have behind successful resurrection goes out the window.
