(During residency) Discussion with ICU physician after sending my 4th intubated ER patient to them in 3 hours:

The problem is that bystanders (non-medical people) don’t often hold enough “direct pressure”, or in the wrong spot. I see this *all* the time in the ER. For most wounds, direct pressure works well; but for limb-threatening or significant blood vessel injury, a tourniquet is definitely indicated.

I work as an ER doc - good article. A few thoughts:

High school, senior year. Road trip, All you can eat steakhouse. Eat the most steak = everyone else gives you $10.
