I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that the prosecutors threatened to bring more charges if they didn’t take the plea deal.  Instead they decided to “roll the dice” hence the additional charges.

I recently read a book about sociopaths/anti-social personality disorder that claimed 1 in 25 people were psychopathic, i.e. have no conscience or the ability to feel remorse.
