It sounds like this thing would live perfectly well on the bottom of the ocean on Titan or many other moons of the solar system. If there are subterranean oceans, life like this is plentiful there. 

We will have brain computer interfaces directly tied into our brains within a decade. Death as we know it will no longer be a certainty once our minds are hooked into the internet. Ghost in the Shell was fiction when it was created, but will not always be so.

The problem is that AI has the potential to outpace all of humanity within hours of its becoming self aware. Stopping an amoral AI that is evolving by the second and has already expanded to consume all virtual network resources in the world, is impossible without resetting ourselves back to the 1800's.
