The Amy character is, indeed, a horrible person and Laura Dern does such a very good job of playing a self-obsessed crazy person that I find it absolutely impossible to  watch the show. There really are people exactly like this that you hope won't sit next to you on the subway much less work at the next desk.

Hmmm. A single mother drawn into a life of crime to support her family - sounds a little Weedy to me.
