I’ve watched a couple of episodes, but I’m having a hard time getting into it, not totally sure why. But she was basically what sold me to start watching it.

Totally agree, it is not an easy movie to watch and it’s mostly because of how profoundly painful her performance is.

Easily one of the most underrated actresses working right now. Her body of work is incredible and interesting and complex. I watched “The Kindergarten Teacher” twice in a row because I was so blown away with her performance I needed to almost process it deeper. Sherrybaby, The Secretary, she’s totally remarkable. She

YEAH, he was excellent in Zodiac.

ALSO (and I thought this went without saying but apparently not): Queen are fucking rock LEGENDS. Freddie Mercury is widely considered one of, if not THE best, rock frontman of all time. Their music was unique, complex, and pushed the bounds of the genre with every album. The author’s comment of “[Bohemian Rhapsody]

Rent was beautiful then and now for the fact that it gave heart and empathy to a group of people who were marginalized and largely ignored. It opened the door to people who maybe felt totally removed from the AIDS epidemic and the LGBTQ community to understand that these were young people suffering and trying to find

Please no. The last thing we need as a society is Madonna attempting to caterwaul her way through “Rose’s Turn.” Evita and Breathless Mahoney butchered Weber and Sondheim enough as it was.

THIS. My take on Madonna has always been that she doesn’t believe there’s room at the table for anyone but herself, and therefore has to find petty ways to tear down anyone and everyone who draws any sort of comparison to her.

Avenue Q is really brilliant. There’s a lot of heart in the whole show, while also being incredibly funny and raunchy.

I’m not totally sure, and it’s always amazed me too. It’s such a heavy show, almost entirely sung, and moves along at a somewhat slow pace. And yet I’ve heard time and again “I can’t stand musicals . . . Except Les Mis.”

I ADORE Avenue Q.

The whole “singing live” thing was ridiculous. There’s a reason why movie musicals are pre-recorded. Because everyone sounds like shit when they have to sing take after take.

I would argue that Rent is a far better intro to the medium. But I’m constantly surprised by how many people I know who say “I don’t like musicals . . . Except Les Mis.” And this is before the film came out.

That’s a great intro, especially for any millennials/Gen X that grew up on Southpark.

Les Mis also has a particular stronghold in musical theatre because it is often an introduction for those who aren’t inherently interested in musical theatre. It’s surprisingly universal, and is oftentimes the only musical people like (Phantom of the Opera has a similar position). For that, I appreciate Les Mis. As a

Well, it’s definitely in there, but not as gratuitous as I think Cohen wanted to go with it. I think the difference was where the central focus of the film was being placed: on the the band and the music, or on Freddie individually.

Yeah, Judy Davis is FANTASTIC as Garland. I don’t think Zellweger has the gravitas to pull her off. There’s always an uncertainty/hesitance with Zellweger’s performances, which Judy had none of when she performed.

Trust, he has talent. He pulls this off incredibly well.

He definitely has (fake?) chest hair in it, but it seems to be far less than what Mercury actually had.
