BOOM.
BOOM.
This is perfectly on point. Gold star.
This has been one of the more tragic industry-related deaths in recent memory. Mostly because: 1. I adore Patton Oswalt (though I wasn’t as familiar with Michelle’s work), 2. it was so shocking and sudden and seemingly unprompted, and 3. they have a young daughter together. My dad lost his mom at 11, and I have seen…
It’s fairly forgettable as far as Cohen brothers films go, but his scenes, as well as all of Alden Ehrenreich’s work, are particularly delightful.
I was always a bit on the fence with him, but then he tap danced and sang in “Hail, Caesar” and stole my heart.
I support this fully. FULLY.
Thank you. I was sure my brain was still functioning correctly.
That is a fucking FANTASTIC poster. Elegant and powerful all at once. Though I have always appreciated a woman in a dark turtleneck.
Correct me if I’m wrong (because it’s early and I very well may be), but wasn’t a big push for her when she was First Lady healthcare reform? And didn’t she get an insane amount of backlash, basically telling her to “get out of politics and back in the kitchen?” It was my understanding as well that universal…
Somewhere in a forgotten attic in the Hollywood Hills, there is a portrait of her rapidly aging.
She is DELIGHTFUL.
I agree with dubbing, although I don’t think I realized Ice did Riff’s dubbing. That score is incredibly difficult, and the two leads were pretty much straight actors with little to no musical experience. And Marni Nixon did such a wonderful job with Maria; her voice was just so fresh and clear.
I think you’re right on that one. I remember her remark about the low notes being difficult for her. That song is all over the place in terms of range, partly because it was written for Chita Rivera who has a big range.
My exact reaction.
Yeah, very bizarre excuse, which is why Rita in particular was so blown away by the fact that she was being dubbed. She even says in an interview that the woman dubbing her clearly did not have Anita in her heart when she was singing, because when recording “A Boy Like That,” Moreno is clearly growling and snarling…
I think she was never really considered for it. Outside of Broadway and London, she was not particularly well-known; Rex Harrison was far more famous at the time, and they needed a star to carry the film. She wound up doing “Mary Poppins” instead, and it’s believed she won the Oscar over Audrey that year as the…
Natalie had it in her contract that they had to allow her to record all of her vocals herself (she desperately wanted to be a singer). So they recorded them, but dubbed her in with Nixon, because her contract did not stipulate that they had to use her recordings. I believe you can still find the recordings of Natalie…
EVERYONE was dubbed in WSS, because the music director (who’s name escapes me) believed that dancers could not sing, and the majority of the cast were highly trained dancers. Very weird excuse.
He is perfection in that movie.
AHHHH!!!!! I thought I was the only person alive who still remembered Fairytale Theater.
