I'm not sure why you're recommending going through all this hassle just to duplicate the services that Google voice already offers. Is it that you're concerned that Voice is going to go the way of Reader, or is it because you don't like how Google implements some of the features they offer? I'm just starting to use

I think there's a finer line there between wanting to learn or not wanting to learn. Encouragement helps—without forcing a kid to take it up, of course.

Education

Definitely the best camera app out there, especially if you have a Nexus. Bought the app after the first LH recommendation and tryout; still the second thing I install after flashing a new ROM (after SwiftKey).

An all purpose home server would be wonderful. Something I could host a blog on, store some files to be accessed via plex or some other medium outside the home and server as a general backup device. Making it a headless setup would be great too, to conserve space, energy and cost.

Plex is an offshoot of the XBMC project. In short, Plex is a simple method to watch your networked media. Plex isn't terribly powerful, but it will play your stuff. Sounds like exactly what net neutrality is supposed to be preventing - preferential content access based on the provider paying a fee to the carrier.
