This isn’t the type of thing we should make into a competition.

Absolutely! I think that of all the “jokes” recounted here, that’s the one that is closest to really working. I’m a white trans women, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that my whiteness protects me from some transphobia. The thing about Mr. Chappelle, though, is that I don’t think he knows enough about the…
I’m guessing because he gets held to a higher standard, as a minority, he “should know better”. I’m not saying I am agreeing with this, just trying to think as to why this must be. It sucks his jokes are in poor taste; I do think he has a point that white privilege does extend to the transgendered community, though.
I’m getting kind of uncomfortable with the focus on this man as if he is the only comedian who does this. Why the pretense that he is the only one making these kinds of jokes? Why not talk about every comedian—even the ones that aren’t Black men—who make these kinds of jokes?
His jokes suck, but this line...
So this pretty much eliminates Trump’s voter base?
Yup. I think it’s great that younger people are getting involved and being passionate, but I just wish they’d understand that A) nobody’s perfect, and B) ideals are called ideals for a reason, and reality is called reality for a reason. I think we all learn that eventually, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t drive a…
True, but I’d argue people can also grow their own herbs and vegetables but don’t. (Case in point: my husband and I bought an indoor herb grower 4 months ago and STILL haven’t taken it out of the box.) People are lazy and poor and this is the 21st century. No doubt folks who use medical grade weed would LOVE to just…
My takeaway from this comments section:
As i explained in other part of the thread, I am not defending slavery. The article stated that africans “could not imagine that any civilized human being could possibly believe he owned another human being.”
I was pointing out that they, in fact, did imagine this. They had a system set up for doing this. Europeans…
100 years? So the byzantine and ottoman empire didn’t exist?
Ugh... I hate to think I might be defending someone defending the slave trade but... I don’t think that’s what this person was trying to say, at all?
That’s my take also. The VF description made it sound like they set a trap with a stack of 100's as the bait, then confronted the little thieves.
I feel like she was saying that the story was told in a disturbing way, not that the reaction is disturbing? Maybe I’m reading it wrong.
When my parents visited from Ohio, they were absolutely squicked out by jumping into a Lyft for the first time. My mom said ‘So we’ just going to hop in the back of some dude’ accura?’
Both, according to another post. They had a copy of the game with Rey in it, but retailers still had too much inventory of the older set, and didn’t order it. People who bought the game could write to Hasbro and get a Rey figurine for free; only 60 people in North America did.
Both.
Preach. I am so damn tired of sounding alarms without context. This article fails to mention that Andrew’s character in the play is a former drag queen. Nor have the majority of the people slamming Andrew seen his performance to judge whether or not Andrew takes his cues from a two bit Drag Race drama queen. This is…
I’m torn on this. Because Kim and Park had supporting roles, not leading roles. And you’d be hard pressed to find supporting actors receiving the same pay as the leads anywhere. That said, I think CBS missed the boat by not putting Daniel Day Kim in either O’Laughlin’s or Caan’s role. This show should have had…
