Modern non handheld radars don’t really tie into the squads vss any more. They use a multi beam antenna. It shoots a low power beam at the road about 20 feet infront of the squad and collects vehicle speed data from that. Another higher powered beam is projected out to collect “target” speed data.

Depends entirely on what part of the US you’re in. In the western US it’s possible you could go 500+ miles and not spend any meaningful time on pavement. But for those situations we’re awash in non-street leagle dirt bikes and ATVs.
