I think the important takeaway is if someone tells you Jade goes by He/Him...you just do your best to use those for Jade moving forward. Otherwise, yeah I think they were a bit over the top to assume someone in your age group would know all this.

Out of pure curiosity I looked up the summary of the original book, and it basically ends where the first season does with an epilogue after Gilliad falls and unsure about June’s fate. So...I guess the show is going on it’s own path to fill in the large gap with....more torture for a while?

This is why I gave up on this show half way through the first episode of the second season. I get the point and I don’t need another season of failed attempts by June leading into more torture for her and other handmaids. I’ll check back in once the revolution gains some real traction.
