No. The World Cup is the absolute pinnacle. The Women’s World Cup is the absolute pinnacle for women. Women are, in theory, allowed to play in the World Cup, should they be so talented as to earn a place on the team. Men are not allowed to play in the Women’s World Cup, out of basic fairness to the women on the field.

There are no rules preventing women from playing in the 2018 World Cup. It’s considered an open competition. If Hope Solo is the best American goalkeeper at that time (and god help me, she might be), the she will be allowed to compete.

People can be outraged about anything, even stuff they have absolutely no way to influence. It’s just impotent outrage when that’s the case.

Wait, what? I can kind of understand the argument of using the men’s game to subsidize the women’s (though I disagree with it), but why would MORE prize money go to the sport that draws in less revenue and fans?

Absolutely! Though I’ll point out that we’re talking about the worldwide payout, not just an American payout (so Americans being equally interested in both is important, but maybe the rest of the world isn’t on board).
