I definitely recommend having a job before moving here. In my area the biggest industries are the hospital, the schools, the Coast Guard, fishing, shipping and shipping related like tugboats, logging and logging related, and the casino. It definitely depends on the town, for sure.

There’s only one Costco on the Oregon coast up in Astoria. Those of us on the other end get to go to Eugene, Roseburg, Medford, or order online. I’m two hours from both Eugene and Roseburg, so I have saved a tremendous amount of money not living 15 minutes from a Costco because I can’t just drop by after work. But,

Pros for Florence: great restaurants down by the river, the Fred Meyer rivals any of the Portland stores, and it’s an hour-ish to Eugene if you need to go to Costco/Target/etc. Gold Beach, though, has that small town feel, awesome mountain roads, and Zane Grey’s cabin:

I’m between those two. Florence is probably the better choice if you have kids. They have a great school there. Not that Gold Beach is bad, but it’s super tiny with not a lot of opportunities for extracurricular activities. But, Gold Beach has the Rogue River and it’s warmer. Decisions, decisions...

Former Portlander here - you all should move to the coast! The traffic is better, homes are actually affordable, and who doesn’t like the ocean?

You and me, both.

I have an elderly aunt and uncle there, too. It’s a fun little town with some amazing restaurants on the main drag.

Don’t you mean ipecacable timing? Sorry. I got skunked at fishing today, so I’m fishing for bad puns over now.

I was just up in McMinnville for a conference over the weekend, and it was like the sun was more intense. My husband and I laughed at the 30º temperature drop from there to our town on the coast.

In other news about a man from the past, this guy was found guilty. Man, there are days when I miss Gawker.

What we need is another Carrington Event to fry all of the electronics. Then no one will be able to post vapid Instagram pictures and the like.

You know who I miss from local politics? This guy:

I can’t stop looking at his hair and thinking that if he knocked up with Kellyanne Conway, their kid would have a head of hair that would be the envy of everyone on the planet.

Are you in Newport, OR by chance? If yes, and you’re taking Hwy 18 back from the coast, I can recommend some good places in McMinnville.

He’s not Jimmy Fallon?

One of my fellow volleyball coaches and I were just griping about them the other day. They’ve been (even the men’s shoes) too narrow for my feet since high school, and that was 20+ years ago.

I wonder if the Smiths got their name idea from Victor and Nikki on Young and the Restless?

My husband is allergic, so no cats for us. That’s why it’s nice to live in a good kitty neighborhood. I get all of the benefits with none of the work. I even planted catnip to lure them to my yard...

He gives the best high fives, too.

I live in a very kitty-tastic neighborhood. My neighbor kitty, Gizmo, is one of the best. He’s a polydactyl, and apparently a klepto. My neighbor lady knocked on my door the other night with a handful of my garden gloves. Apparently Gizmo likes to bring home presents for his mom, and those presents include two of my
