Seeing as I’ll probably be in the market for an AWD vehicle sometime in the near future, this could be a pretty nifty option. I love boxy styling and round headlights. Now throw in a column shifter and some decent outward visibility and access to components under the hood and I’ll be practically sold!

I completely agree with you - that three tone chime drives me nuts. I preferred the old Ford single-tone chime.

I’m still pissed they chose to include Destruction Derby over Driver or Driver 2.

A shame that Driver/Driver 2 didn’t make it on there. They’re some of my favorites on the PS1.

That’s fucking insane.

I agree.  They free up quite a bit of interior room.

What if I live in a populated/urban area and park on the street? What if I park near a cart return in the grocery store parking lot? Bumpers help protect from other people’s mistakes as much as they protect for my own.

I couldn’t agree with you more - it’s absolutely insane that bumper damage these days can cause in excess of $1000 to fix. This is especially painful in cities with parallel parking. It seems like everyone parks by touch - metal, proper bumpers wouldn’t have a problem dealing with that.

I’ve always loved the Chrysler fuselage cars.  You don’t see enough chrome these days, nor prominent, proper bumpers.

At least some cars with backup cameras just put them into the rearview mirror - the Chevrolet Express van lineup comes to mind.

The sheer amount of losses chalked up to stupid or otherwise unnecessary infotainment systems is silly.

I think The French Connection (1971) is a better NYC gritty crime/police drama with an equally awesome car chase, but The Seven-Ups is definitely worth checking out if you have the time. Awesome scenery, an alright plot, etc. And of course, the car chase rocks. :D

AFAIK that single headlight Vic isn’t technically a Crown Vic.  It’s a pre-Vic Panther Platform LTD/LTD-S.  1979-1982; the LTD Crown Vic nameplate spun off into its own model in ‘83.

For the record, the Monacos/Furys pictured are B-Bodies.  They were moved away from the C-body platform in ‘75 IIRC.

Now that’s gorgeous - kudos for keeping it up in such great shape.  Hopefully it went to a good home.

IMO there were plenty of Malaise-era cars that looked different than one another, and even similar looking ones tended to have distinct differences if you knew what to look for.

The automotive malaise era and grungy NYC are two of my favorite historical phenomena, and a number of my favorite cars originate in the malaise era as well (who doesn’t love giant, boat-like sedans?). It is pretty funny that contemporary Newark can act as such a decent stand-in for ‘80s NYC, but I digress. I’m

Glad I wasn’t the only one bothered by that. LTD Crown Victoria does flow more nicely on that note.

I miss boxy SUV’s.  That first photo looks great.

Department shoot/don’t shoot policies vary greatly, as does the discretion of individual officers.
