No, it's the opposite - car companies will pay movie-makers to prominently feature their cars. It's known as "product placement" and sometimes it's enough to entirely pay for a movie. How the reverse has become common practice in games, I do not know. It's perverse.

They do, the reason why they didn't change that much is that they're extremely well adapted to their environment and they don't suffer a lot of evolutionary pressure to "make" them change so the differences over time are minimal (although they're there).
