Not really sure why we would state anything in Apple’s defense... Does the consumer own the phone or does Apple. If you have work done on your Ford by anyone other than a Ford dealer, should your car stop working?

The whole thing is that this security measure DOESN’T protect the owner. Having the device function for months or even indefinitely with the altered home button is not protecting the owner. It only throws Error 53 when you do a restore or a software update. If the Touch ID validation was part of securing the device…
So, Chris Mills, how nice of you to decide for everyone that third party repair shops are “dodgy” - but then again, I shouldn’t be surprised with the education level that your content tends to show. It is 100% true that there are a number of “dodgy” repair shops out there, but there are (most likely) far more of us…
