Doing it as an homage rather than a straight sketch-comedy parody would have a better chance of landing better, I think. And, of course, it would also depend on who’s writing/executing it. I like Jimmy Kimmel, but while he’s not Lonnie Donegan or anything some of his sketch stuff is pretty forced.

I could see a show doing a double-layered homage to finales by framing them with the amazing Six Feet Under montage but each individual segment is a do-over of some finale that fell flat featuring their own characters.

IIRC they also broached that in Enterprise, specifically in “E2.” Lorian was Trip & T’Pol’s son, and the explanation there was that Dr. Phlox figured out how to make it work.
