If you look at the footer it says Paste Media now. Only a matter of time before they convert it over and you’ll have to subscribe to comment. I’m not going that. I pay for Defector and Aftermath because they’re owned and operated by the journalists themselves.

Yes and yes. It’s a lot like SEO in that it helps with the search and recommendation algorithms, so it helps with discovery. Discovery is by far the most difficult thing about podcasting because (at least in part) there are so goddamn many podcasts.

Part of the problem is that the self-important droning chumps you mention drown out the genuinely good and interesting stuff that’s out there - and there’s a lot - so people just assume that’s all podcasts are.

I’m not going to argue that it’s great, but it’s not nearly as bad as implied in the article and especially the headline.

They might as well put that plan into motion because Flori-duh is only going to go farther into the MAGA sewer. That state is the perfect storm of dipshits, racists & homophobes/transphobes, people who long for the days of Fulgencio Bautista, and rich retirees who are only concerned about keeping their wizened claws

That’s how it is at Defector (where the Deadspin folks went) and Aftermath (where the Kotaku folks went), but I’m fine with it because those outlets were founded by and are owned by the refugees from those sites and supporting them is a very strongly positive thing to do.

Don’t be so sure. Everyone - including the man himself - thought we were rid of Nixon in 1962 and look how that turned out. DeSantis is 4 years younger than Nixon was when he lost that race, he’s got plenty of time to keep failing up.

I could get behind the idea of a show about that character. She’s one of those captains I’d like to see more of; I felt much the same way about Pike since I first saw “The Menagerie” in syndication in the ‘70s. But dumping her into a show that’s not specifically about her feels like the same thing I complain about on

Well, Strange New Worlds has managed to avoid getting the stink of Discovery all over it despite being a spin-off. Now, granted, SNW didn’t bring any Discovery regulars with them so the fact that this new series will be is a concern but like you said the key is really the writers/other creatives.

a major character joining Yeoh in the film will be a young Rachel Garrett, played by Kacey Rohl—the captain of the Enterprise-C introduced in the TNG episode “Yesterday’s Enterprise.”

Eh, he has and makes enough money that he should at least be able to avoid the last step. But the rest are absolutely on the table.

That was exactly the comparison I made when I was talking to someone about this movie over the weekend. I think McGregor could’ve been fine-ish if they’d severely limited how much he had to talk. I kind of dug the character as a maniacal chaos gremlin but between his voice, performance, and that look he always had on

I didn’t realize at the time that what made that line so funny was that his wife was his manager.

Do you have a “let’s go” head nod? I truly do not.

We did have Venkman-less drafts but the execs on the project were convinced that it HAD to involve Venkman or people wouldn’t see it.

Hudson’s one objection to the 2016 movie is that he doesn’t really understand why Hollywood made that one instead of just making another Ghostbusters movie with the old Ghostbusters

“You know why we’re going to make a great Joker movie, Joaquin? Because we’re from the streets.”

He does. And John Lithgow is delightful so I think he’d be a hoot if he were to come back as well.

Yeah, I agree with that... I was annoyed that Rose - even though I thought she was a wonderful character very well played - was so very special and important to the Doctor in a way that companions had very explicitly not been previously, to the point that it actively and unfairly harmed his relationship with his next
