It does help solve the Captain Kirk problem. Kirk as an admiral flying a desk isn’t a particularly compelling use of the character, so they had to figure out a way to make him the captain of a ship, usually (with the exception of STIV until the very end) the Enterprise for every TOS film.

I somehow managed to walk away from this 1982 K-Car with a nasty cut on my chin (from it hitting the steering wheel), an injured hand, and bruises from seatbelt.
