My kid and I have discussed this and have this on the table: If I get to that stage where it would cost a fortune just to keep me alive in some dignity, take the $6K and send me to Vegas or someplace I can get a fancy room, splurge on a crazy meal, rent a Ferrari, and drive it into a wall at 150 mph.

There is only ever one downside to not having kids. And that is the reality of old age. My wife and I do not have kids. But all that money we saved not raising kids has basically gone to taking care of our parents.
