I read somewhere that Dil Dhadakne Do was originally written for Ranbir and Kareena Kapoor, and with that in mind, Priyanka seems like even more of a miss-step. I would also put Deepika, Anushka, Kareena, and Parineeta ahead of her in acting ability. So I guess that leaves her ahead of Katrina Kaif?

To me, it seems all of a piece with the way sexual assault against African-American girls is dismissed versus how it is treated when it is white girls in America.

Thank you! I do not. And I thought I was the only one. She still makes great "aren't I charming and naughty!" faces, but her whole break-down at the end was exactly the reason I find her movies so irritating. It's like she can't commit to a crying scene because she is so worried about smearing her make-up.

That's really interesting! I had no idea. And again makes me wish that they had spent a little more time in the aftermath discussing the morality of what he had done, and the situation that might have led to it. Instead of just randomly throwing in sexual assault for shock value. Or had kept the character around

See what bothers me is, it IS a rape case, but no one was treating it that way. If he had been on a mission in like Pheonix, AZ and gotten a 14 year old white girl pregnant, everyone would have shunned him and he would have been pulled off in handcuffs. But since it was a African girl, everyone is sorry that he died

I'm glad people didn't like her singing (by the way, did you know salman sings the theme song to hero? He actually has a better voice than her!), but I am still waiting for more outrage over her singing a song called "I'm feeling so exotic".

What movie did you go to the premiere of?

I was going to point to anil kapoor and Rahul khanna as actors who didn't look terribly out of place in American tv, but then I realized I would consider them definitely better than average for india, so yeah, you're right, the standard bollywood star wouldn't work on us tv, it's not just Priyanka. I still hate her

Just throwing this out there, I really really really really hate Priyanka Chopra. Does anyone else agree with me, or am I just some sort of inhuman weirdo? I was expecting all the reviews to trash her, and instead they all seem to think she can act?

Douple post, sorry

Thank you! I was very confused by that.

I'm a little confused by the review, and I went to wikipedia and it just got me more confused, maybe if someone actually sees the movie they can help me with this? The defendant is Marathi/Maharashtrian, but there is prejudice AGAINST him in Mumbai? Wouldn't it be prejudice for him? Or is it that the court system

Maybe it's just really bad subtitles? They do make terrible errors, it's actually usually better on the dvds than the theatrical version, but it's still pretty bad.

I guess not. They always still show the censor certificate before the movie even on the dvd.

Oh my gosh, after learning some of the meanings, the swear words in Hindi are sooooooooooo much worse than anything we have in English!

Yes! And when my sister was living in New Jersey, I dragged her along with me to the actual place that inspired "Grovers Corner"

I actually just finished my Master's thesis on the topic of International Bollywood fans. The visuals, the songs, all the non-verbal stuff was a big part of the appeal for the people I spoke with, but more generally, it seems to be the emotional component of the films that really made them able to cross borders

Again, it depends on the audience. Something like No One Killed Jessica which is aimed at the more urban audience which would be more fluent in both Hindi and English would use less non-verbal communication, but something like Chennai Express which is aimed at every audience level would use more non-verbal cues. If

Yes, French is a great comparison! I may steal that! Hindi is a northern language, so it is spoken and understood more generally in the northern regions, even if the local language is different, sort of like French and Spanish. But the southern languages are from a completely different language group, more like

My vague understanding is that speaking English shows you are upper class and educated. Plus, as the films are increasingly made for the growing urban middle-class and the diaspora instead of the lower-class audiences, English is easier for them to understand (you can tell if a film is made more for the
