AMC was the big hold out near me too. I kind of wonder if it was an actual programming issue? Like, their box office computer programs can only handle $8, $12, and $15 prices. Or else they negotiated a deal with the distributor. I think they only got Hindi near me, which would mean Dharma films, and Dharma is

Oh, I can ask you! Would you rather I continued my Samarth-Mukherjee family saga 101, or did a brief history of multi-language cross-over films for tomorrow's post? I can't decide, I kind of want to do Samarth-Mukjherjee because this is the week when things finally get juicy, but on the other hand Bahubali 2 is

Cool! I had no idea I shared readers with the AVClub! Except, now that I check my email I see that we have already talked over here, and over on the blog.

Or maybe its because Telugu folks make better movies? Or else better business decisions, if Hindi distributors were smart, they would do the same thing, I would easily pay $100 for SRK opening night tickets, they are leaving money on the table by only charging me $10.

I gave up on the AV Club or any other good film site covering Indian film and just started my own blog. www.dontcallitbollywood.com, if you are curious.

That's one of the reasons it took me so long to get into southern films, the ticket prices scared me away. I don't know why Hindi is different, but there the prices are always the same. Of course, now I have finally given in and gotten addicted to Southern, so I not only spent $25 for opening day, I am considering

Yay, an article that mentions Indian film! And a chance for me to toot my own horn because I so predicted that Bahubali 2 would be the #3 film this weekend back on Wednesday! Thursday release (to time with midnight Friday in India) giving it a 3 day weekend, even more inflated than usual opening weekend ticket

I saw it for $25 with a friend, and we were two of only 6 people in the theater. But I had another friend who saw it for $40 in IMAX first show (2:30 on Thursday) and it was completely sold out. But that was at a theater that always shows Telugu/Tamil, so the audience knew to go there, I don't think anyone even

I'm torn between high art (really good music and music videos) and low art (funny photos of hot guys). If you are similarly torn, I posted a list of the first option here https://dontcallitbollywood…

Fun (?) fact for Chicago-area people, Swad foods is a national Indian packaged food company that is based in Skokie, IL. It was founded by the same Patel family that owns Patel Bros. Grocery, Patel Utensils, Patel Sweet Shop on Devon Avenue. Patel Bros Grocery was one of the first big Indian stores up there back in

Featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, India's rising art film actor!!! The next Irrfan Khan, now that Irrfan is spending so much time in America.

In an earlier version, Deepika's name was miss-spelled as "Peedika". So ten million just isn't quite enough to get your name spelled right. Inflation is terrible!

Well, now I am fascinated! I wonder why it didn't make that list since it shows up everywhere else in the top 20 if not the top 10? I have visions of elaborate international conspiracies! But it's probably some sort of boring oversight.

This is just randomly interesting to me, but an Indian film was Number 10 in the American box office this weekend. This is the second time this month that an Indian film has broken into the top 10 in America. After Sultan the weekend of July 8th, Kabali was number 10 this weekend, making $15,000 per screen on 240

Oh man, Hindi films especially can be so meta it hurts! The problem is, you have to watch enough of them to start getting the references, otherwise it just seems really random and confusing. And then there is that magic moment when you go "Oh wait, I get that! He is dressed like that because of that other movie,

Okay, I will, but if they turn me down and make me feel like dirt, I will blame you! :)

If you can find it, check out Magadheera! Another gangster/tragedy/reincarnation musical, with bonus massive fight scenes. And horses. And helicopters. And seers in caves who can offer helpful explanations of everything that is happening.

Sarkar is brilliant! Stay away from Sarkar Raj, the sequel, which is terrible. And it's definitely the best Indian version of the Godfather movies (there have been several).

Any other old screwballs you like? Or really any obscure film from anywhere? There is a decent chance I can recommend another remake for you. Indian filmmakers have a huge and omnivorous appetite, they have remade everything from Old Boy to Cactus Flower. Oh! And Houseboat! Which isn't the best Cary Grant movie,
