Totally, and I get that he meant it as you describe, but first, I don’t think it’s necessarily true (depending on how one might define the terms), and second, if it is true, then that speaks to what is wrong with K-12. My job is not to prep people for a general job market.

My spouse and I had the same experience. Originally we weren’t really keen on any gifts at all, but then both sets of parents insisted on a registry. It was also helpful for grad school friends who could get us a cheap gift that we needed if they felt like it.
