Or a cop could roust you for his own amusement and haul you in for having them. These laws are most often just excuses for police to use their power without justifiable cause. Even if the charge gets dropped later, they still get to intimidate you for a bit with very little accountability.

Yes, that’s what I was getting at. These vague “crimes” that can be applied to just about anybody are most commonly used against minorities and while it is nice to see real racists getting nailed with them, I still don’t think it is a good idea to have them exist.

I’ve worn a mask alone in a car. It’s not about protection during the car ride, it’s about not handling the mask so much. Put it on once at home after washing your hands, go out and do what you need to do, and take it off when you get home and have washed your hands. Pretty simple.
