Yep. Even Sega nailed it with Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast years ago. Why they insist on this generic, devoid-of-personality, glorified tech demo is beyond me.

Sonic Mania worked because they put someone in control that:
1. was a fan
2. had a a high level of experience with 2D sonic level design (the ports they developed of the various 2D sonic games for Android were modified to add additional characters and new branching paths for those characters to take in the levels)

I’ve always thought Baja Blast was more of a tequila/agave flavor, but without the alcohol. Not as lime-heavy as a margarita, but with a few more tropical flavors added in small amounts.

the devs on that worked on origins and christian whitehead is off doing his own thing. I’m sure it’s in the planning stages somewhere but basically everyone involved is resourced elsewhere. 

Well, there are definitely not nearly enough checkerboard patterns on the floor, in my opinion (even the Sonic movie got this right, come on).

Honestly, it is kinda surprising to me that we haven’t seen a Sonic Mania follow-up. I really enjoyed the game and I thought the game was supposed to have been successful but maybe it just had good word-of-mouth that didn’t correspond with sales numbers.

That’s OK. We had a good run. I have to admit that I’m a little sad to see us go, but we weren’t terribly efficient. At 50% of our (straight people) marriages ending in divorce, you really can’t say it’s been an unmitigated success when the outcome is an even toss-up. Maybe non-straight marriages have a better success…
